I wasn’t involved. I didn’t know why I wasn’t. It had been established that I was high maintenance, and I’d never dream of letting a man pick a fucking appetizer for me, let alone a whole ass house.

But I was discovering that I enjoyed Colby taking the reins. He knew what I wanted, knew me.

Beyond that, the prospect of making such a huge decision as part of a couple was fucking terrifying to me, and I couldn’t guarantee I wouldn’t run if I got too close to the process.

“This isn’t the way to your room,” I muttered as Colby led us outside.

“Good observation skills, poppet,” he replied dryly.

I scowled at him and froze when he took us around the corner.

The shooting range.

I hadn’t been here in … years.

It was where Colby had taught me how to shoot. Where we’d toyed with each other and our sexual chemistry. Where I’d played games with him purely because I could.

I was uncomfortable standing on the concrete there, reexperiencing the person I was then.

I knew that Colby noted my change in demeanor because he was Colby. He’d been treating observing me and my moods like it was his fucking job. Like I was a job. I didn’t like that. Being so fragile. So fucked-up.

“Been too long.” He took his gun out of the holster under his cut.

“I don’t need this,” I argued, feeling panicky. “I’m a great fucking shot.”

“You were. But you don’t stay a great shot by shooting great a handful of times then never picking up a gun again.”

There it was.

A challenge.

I fucking hated it when people told me t I couldn’t do shit.

So I did the only thing I could do. I snatched the gun from him, leveled it at the target, took a deep breath and pulled the trigger on an exhale.

“You were saying?” I scoffed as we both looked at where I’d put a hole in the middle of the target.

Colby looked between me and the target, holding back a smile.

“I stand corrected,” he moved to stand behind me.

His hands came up to mine, lifting the gun once more, reenacting the stance we’d stood in when he first taught me how to shoot.

And just like when he first taught me how to shoot, my body responded. Enthusiastically.

The hairs on the back of my neck stood up, my breathing shallowed, and my heartbeats quickened.

And, of course, my panties dampened.

“Deep breaths,” Colby murmured in my ear.

I shivered, his hand covering mine on the gun, aiming it at the target.

“I didn’t bring you here because I doubt your ability,” he whispered. “I brought you here to remember who the fuck you are. How powerful you are.”

I sighed as his words penetrated. The old Sariah was obsessed with doing anything the men here could do. The old Sariah liked knowing how to use a gun, liked knowing how to ride a motorcycle, loved the power of it all. When my power was taken, it seemed like it had all been for nothing.

Colby was reminding me what I still had.

“Inhale,” Colby rasped in my ear.

I obeyed, my finger twitching on the trigger.

“Exhale.”

I pulled.

It didn’t matter where the shot went—even though it was a great fucking shot—because that wasn’t what this was about anymore. The gun was out of my hands, safety on, back in Colby’s holster.

Then I was against the wall, my palms catching the cold concrete. Colby’s hands were at my hips, rolling up my skirt to my waist.

Colby had told me to wear a skirt today.

He’d planned this.

“I’ve been dreaming about doing this since the first fucking moment we were out here,” he growled, ripping my panties off.

They were ruined anyway.

His cock was poised at my soaking entrance within seconds, the concrete wall cutting into my palms.

I could hear voices coming from the garage, of men joking as they walked into the clubhouse. The breeze caressed my tender flesh.

“Colby,” I pleaded.

One of his hands wrapped around my ponytail. “You were thinking about this too, weren’t you?”

“Yes,” I hissed.

His cock slipped in.

I gasped.

But he stopped before he filled me up.

“You gonna let me fuck you wherever I want, whenever I want?”

“Yes,” I said without a second thought.

“That’s my girl.”

Then he slammed all the way in.

I cried out. His hand went to my mouth, covering it, silencing me as he pounded into me relentlessly.

In all of my imaginings, I could not have dreamed up the absolute ecstasy that I would experience out there.

Colby grunted in pleasure as I came, milking his orgasm from me. I felt him releasing inside of me, causing me to explode all over again.

It was safe to say I did not avoid shooting lessons ever again.

“What can I get for you?” I asked the customer, my mind in a million places other than the coffee shop that had become my full-time place of employment since arriving back in Garnett.
