Sometimes one must spark the flame to ignite the hidden passion.

A fiery spinster. An irritating gentleman. One scandalous night filled with indulging in their desires.

Eden Worthington strode through the London ballrooms with the confidence of an independent lady. She didn’t believe in the foolish notion of soul mates, nor did she wish to fall victim to the Marriage Mart. Eden was perfectly content to live her life free from a husband’s demands and help her brother with his detective agency. She refused to allow the attraction of a certain infuriating gentleman to ruin her plans. No matter how much she craved his lips upon hers. However, after an evening spent in decadent sin with the irresistible marquess, Eden was powerless to resist her fate. Could Eden open her heart to the love within her grasp?
Victor Falcone wanted his freedom to be his own man, not one controlled by others. He spent the past few years redeeming for his sins. Now he only wanted to secure himself a bride to ease his loneliness. But first he must finish his final mission to destroy the villain terrorizing England. However, he found himself distracted by a lady who only ever snarled at him. A snarl he wished to kiss away. When Victor gave into the temptation of his desire for Eden, he discovered their hostility was really a hidden passion waiting to be explored. Could he put his arrogance to the side to show Eden how they are soul mates?

A lady who hides behind her snarls. A gentleman who uses his smirks to annoy. Would they forgo their differences to discover an untamed passion filled with undeniable love? Or would they continue to hold contempt for one another?

Prologue

A few years ago

“You understand that if I assist you in this matter, you will, in return, assist me with whatever task I assign to you,” Colebourne stated.

Victor Falcone understood the Duke of Colebourne’s requirement if he accepted the offer. And it was one he must accept because he had no one else to rely on. If his family discovered the mess he had involved himself in, they would insist on helping him. That would tarnish their family name with a scandal they could never recover from.

His sister had already suffered from an arranged marriage with a groom who ignored her to the point where she sought companionship elsewhere. Rumors circulated of her affair. Falcone refused to cause more shame upon his family. He must face the consequences done by his own hand.

“I am aware of what is required of me if you make my sins disappear.” Falcone sat up straight in the chair.

Colebourne took a drag of his cigar, his gaze scrutinizing the marquess. “Consider your sins gone. However, you also must promise to never return to the vices that brought you to this point.”

“I have learned my lesson,” Falcone gritted between his teeth.

His frustration lay within himself for sinking so low. However, the duke reprimanding him like a small child brought forth his irritation. A price he must pay for absolution.

Colebourne tapped his ashes into the cigar tray before stubbing it out. “We shall see. You may leave. Our business has concluded.”

Falcone’s eyebrows drew together in confusion. “What is it you require of me?”

“Nothing for the moment.”

“But . . .”

Colebourne shuffled the papers on his desk, looking for a particular letter. “I shall contact you when I need your assistance.”

Falcone’s lips curled into a snarl. The duke’s dismissal of him as if he were an unimportant nuisance fueled his irritation. He had hoped to earn off his favor immediately, but it would appear Colebourne had other plans for him. He stalked toward the door.

However, Colebourne threw out one more condition to his deal before he left. “Also, one last detail concerning our agreement. You will suffer through your silence if I require you to do so. Understand?”

Falcone’s hand tightened on the doorknob. He debated for a brief second to call off the arrangement, but in the end, he submitted to the duke’s demands. With a nod that he understood, Falcone strode from the duke’s study.

He heard the lighthearted laughter of the duke’s wards drifting through the house and envied their innocence. A past he longed to return to. Instead, he must continue to live in a jaded existence brought about by a life of sin he had once taken pleasure in.

Colebourne watched the young lord storm out of his study. He sat back in his chair, drumming his fingers against the desk as he thought over his decision to help Falcone out of his troubles. Falcone differed from the other souls he helped. They held remorse for the predicaments they landed in, while Falcone only held bitterness from walking away from the degenerate lifestyle he had led. Also, the boy’s temper needed to be brought under control.
