I was almost there—
“Are you fucking kidding me?” I yelled, spinning around as someone clamped a hand on my shoulder. I stumbled but managed to right myself, and then I was face-to-face with my husband. Walker advanced in a quick stride, and he shoved me forcefully so I lost my footing again. And this time, I went down. “Ouch!” I hissed and screwed my eyes shut. Sand went fucking everywhere, and pain radiated from my lower spine.
“Have you missed me, baby?” He crawled over me, his breaths warm and heavy, and he rolled me onto my stomach. “Lord knows I’ve missed ownin’ this fuckable little whore body.”
I groaned and struggled against him. Not ready, not ready, not ready! I screamed at the force I put into the next shove, and he tumbled down next to me.
"You little shit,“ he grunted.
Sucking in a sharp breath, I scrambled to my feet once more, and I saw nothing but my target. Shay. I had to get to him. As if my life actually depended on it, I welcomed the panic to tint my every move, and I let my fight-or-flight mode take charge. The reality of the fantasy, as weird as it sounded, allowed my reflexes to kick in faster. I even welcomed the fear that flowed freely in my bloodstream.
“Macklin!” I heard Lane yell hoarsely. He’d left humanity behind too, and it was fucking heady.
I didn’t know what he wanted, and I didn’t have time to find out. I sprinted toward Shay and knew my window of opportunity was closing. Walker wasn’t far behind, and River and Reese wouldn’t have their backs to me for much longer.
“Fucking—get off’a me!” Shay growled. “You bitch-ass cowards—can’t face me one-on-one, huh?”
“Tear off his clothes,” River snapped.
Now.
I flew into a semi-crouching River, and my stomach rolled violently as I knocked him over at the same time as I dove over his head and landed in the sand. He cursed loudly, hopefully at least a little stunned by my appearance, and his brief delay in reacting gave me a couple extra seconds. I jumped up and shoulder-checked him to keep him down, and then I zeroed in on Reese. He was just about to pull down Shay’s shorts when I threw my body at him, knocking him over too.
“Run!” I shouted breathlessly.
Shay was already gone.
Holy goddamn hell, I couldn’t breathe.
“Stop Lane, Colt!” Ty roared in the distance. “Six o’clock now!”
“You thought that was clever, didn’t you?” Reese sneered at me and grabbed my arm, and since I was lying sideways in the sand, I immediately used my feet. Thrash, thrash, thrash. I kicked sand in his face, followed by a swift kick to his chest, to which he made a furious sound and came at me with the mother of backhands. My head snapped left, and shock registered long before the prickling pain spread across my cheek.
I blinked and shook my head, momentarily trapped in a thick fog.
I can’t.
I was losing my strength.
“Fuck,” I coughed.
River and Reese darted after their boy again, and I was way too slow to get to my feet. I groaned and rolled onto my stomach, sand sticking to my skin, my head utterly fucked. Even more so when I started seeing blurry bursts of glowing red light. And smoke. What the fuck. I coughed and spat into the sand, and I blinked again. Someone was skipping in the smoky shadows.
My brain conjured the image of Kit, of all people. Just…skipping. Dropping flares in the sand that spread more smoke and red light around us.
What’re you doing, kid?
“Daddy, I’m helping!” he hollered proudly. “Daddy, can you see me over here? Daddy!”
With a weak groan, I managed to stand up, but it was too late. Someone pushed me down again, and I just knew it was Walker. His panting matched mine; his strength did not, because he actually had some left. I didn’t.
He planted a knee between my shoulder blades, and before I knew it, he had my hands in his grasp. He made quick work of tying my wrists together.
“Your fight is over,” he told me, out of breath. Next, he grabbed a fistful of my hair and made me look at the Tenleys overpowering Shay farther up the beach. “Shay could’ve used more help, boy. You failed him.”
I gasped and blinked past the sting in my eyes.
Lucas joined the Tenleys with a camera. Shay screamed and thrashed in the sand. Lane was also screaming, somewhere behind us. The music kept pounding.
Walker dipped low and kissed the spot below my ear. “Will you fail me too?”
Fuck.
“No, Sir,” I gritted out.
He hummed and lowered himself over me, pressing his cock against my ass. Jesus fuck, how I’d missed that.
“Ty suggested I rapefuck your feisty little boyfriend.”
Oh my God.
The smoke from the flares shielded the Tenleys from me, and I only had a single thought in my mind. “I’ll make sure he’s good for you, Sir.”
