I swallowed thickly, my eyes flickering to Gloria. Ink gripped my chin and leaned down, kissing me soft and slow, wreaking havoc on my soul. “Call or text me if you need me, baby.” His eyes darkened for a moment. “I fucking mean it.” He turned and nodded once at Joey. “I’ll be back later tonight. Whiler ready?’

Joey nodded. “Yeah. Keep me informed.”

I looked at my brother once Ink had left the room. “What do you have him doing?”

He sighed. “Club shit, sis. You know the rules.”

I glared down at the fast-food bag in my lap. My phone pinged on the small table next to me right after. With a huff, I grabbed my phone, opening it up to see a text from Ink.

Eat your food. Joey will tell me if you do or not. But if you’re a good girl, and you do as you’re told, I’ll reward you tonight. –Ink.

Fuck.

Joey barked out a laugh. “I don’t even have to know what he sent you to know what the fuck just put that look on your face.” I glared at my older, twin brother of two minutes. He grinned. “Eat your food, sis. Ink’s right. You need to take better care of yourself.”

“You’re both dicks.”

Joey grinned and held up his phone. I clenched my jaw. “Don’t you dare tell him I called him a dick.”

He finished typing on his phone before he grinned at me while shrugging. “Too late.”

I grabbed a fry out of the fast-food bag as my phone went off in my hand again.

I’ll show you a fucking dick tonight, my girl. Just wait. –Ink.

Oh, boy.

Whiler grunted as he tried to situate his body more comfortably on the hard-ass gravel we were laying on. River had gotten wind of a small motorcycle club two hours west of us trying to gain more territory, and their dumbasses thought they could start with us.

So, we were scoping them out with some of Alejandro’s men backing us. These mother fuckers had no idea who they were fucking with, and they had hurt one of our own—hospitalized her. And they would fucking pay.

And when they had decided to fuck with us? They had decided to fuck with the wrong ones because our club was not only backed by the Fathers of Mayhem, but we were also backed by the Mexican Cartel.

“Looks like the president is rolling in,” Whiler said quietly as we both turned our attention to the sound of a bike pulling into the lot. I lifted my binoculars to my eyes, and sure enough, his cut read President with the name Trevor under his patch.

“Fuck. We were in prison together,” Whiler whispered. “We shared a fucking cell. He must have just gotten out. I fucking know him—well.”

“Let’s go,” I told him. “If you know him, we should be able to dig up some shit—find out who else is in this fucking club and who they’re attached to.”

Joey met us outside of the clubhouse. Alejandro was standing beside him, his hands stuffed into the pockets of his slacks. “Well?” Joey asked

“Whiler knows the president—shared a cell with him in prison,” I told Joey. “He can tell you everything that he knows about him. From there, I figured one of Alejandro’s men could do some digging.”

“Sounds like a plan,” Alejandro stated. He looked down at me. “Your woman is being even more of a rude bitch than normal.”

I glared at him. “Fucking watch yourself,” I snarled.

Alejandro smirked. “Always knew there was a reason you were my favorite, Ink. Now, I suggest you go inside and deal with Jessie because even some of my men are becoming frightened of her.”

“That’s because your men are pussies,” I retorted as I strode inside of the clubhouse.

Jessie wasn’t at the bar or anywhere in the barroom when I walked inside. With a sigh, I headed straight for the back hallway where her room was, pausing occasionally to greet people as they said something to me.

She was staring at her reflection in the mirror, her eyes drawn to that scar on her face. I silently moved up behind her and wrapped my arms around her waist, pressing a soft kiss to her neck. “I heard you’ve been pretty riled up while I’ve been gone,” I commented. “What happened?”

She shrugged. I gripped her chin and turned her head to face me, staring down into those pretty, dark eyes. “Jessie.” Her name was a soft warning. She swallowed thickly. “Talk to me, my girl.”

She turned to face me, her eyes shining with nervousness. I cupped the side of her neck, my other hand holding her hip as I stared down at her, waiting for her to speak. “I was worried,” she bit out, almost as if it tasted sour on her tongue to say that. God, she was something else. “When I hear club business and club shit, I know it’s dangerous. It doesn’t take a genius to understand that.” She wouldn’t look up at me, her eyes instead focused on my chest. “You were gone for so long. And Joey just kept telling me that everything was fine, but I never had physical, tangible proof that you were okay.”
