“Nightmare,” I told him.

Joey shook his head. “I’ll never forget that goddamn scream as long as I’m alive.”

“Trust me, I won’t either,” I told him. Even now, I could still hear it echoing in my brain. “Scared the fuck out of me.”

He grunted. “What happened in her dream?” he asked me.

I sighed. “I was shot in the forehead,” I told him. He winced, a dark shadow passing over his face for a moment. “Apparently, I was protecting her from whoever is after her.”

“Jesus Christ,” he swore, shaking his head.

We worked out in silence after that. I got a good run in and then lifted some weights. I was cleaning up the bench and the equipment I used when Joey’s phone went off.

“Fuck,” he swore, answering it. I looked up at him. “What?” I set the cloth in my hand down on top of the spray bottle. He cut his eyes to me. “Coming.”

He hung up and looked at me. “Alejandro is here. Wants to talk outside.”

That meant he had news, and one of us probably wasn’t going to fucking like it.

I followed my president outside, but not before I stopped and planted a swift kiss on my woman’s lips. I could feel her worried gaze on my back until the clubhouse door closed behind me. Alejandro was leaning against the door of his SUV as he watched us walk toward him.

“What’s going on?” Joey asked him, cutting straight to the chase.

“Got a lead,” Alejandro said, cutting his eyes to me. I tensed. We’d been searching for fucking months. Hadn’t gotten so much as a fucking sense of what might be going on. I knew Alejandro was following a trail, but none of us thought anything would come of it. So, a lead fucking had me perking up.

“Talk,” I ordered.

“Apparently, your old VP Charles was working with Hellistic Saints MC at one point in time. He sent money to an offshore account so you couldn’t track it, and he did dealings with the Hellistic Saints through that account. And apparently, Charles has a son—one who wants revenge on the one woman that’s the cause for his father’s death.”

“Jessie,” I spat.

Alejandro nodded once in confirmation. I shoved my hand through my hair. “I’m guessing the plan was to take you out of the picture since everyone knows the lengths you’ll go to protect her.” I gritted my teeth.

“She’s our first priority,” I told him.

Alejandro inclined his head to me. “What protection do you want?”

“Need new security put in,” I told him. Joey stayed silent. I knew he wanted his sister protected as badly as I did. “I want some of your men around town and around this clubhouse. Protection on each entrance and all sides of the property at all times.” I crossed my arms over my chest. “And when it comes time to take care of this son of a bitch, I want in.”

Alejandro nodded once. “Done.”

He held his hand out to me, and I clasped his hand in mine, shaking it, sealing the deal.

All of our souls were already sold to the devil, so why not utilize him?

Joey tapped his fingers on the table. “I want everyone as close to this clubhouse as possible at all times,” he finally said, looking around the room at each of us. “Charles didn’t fuck with people who play nice. They’ll use everyone in this fucking building against my sister, and I don’t want her feeling like she needs to play the goddamn hero, am I clear?”

I leaned forward in my seat. “Also, if you hear even a fucking word about anything relating to Jessie, I need it brought to me immediately,” I stressed. “This club failed her once. We won’t fucking do that again.”

I got nods and grunts of affirmation in return. And I knew I could trust everyone sitting at that table. Didn’t matter their feelings about me; everyone in the club loved Jessie.

Suddenly, the chapel doors flung open. We all jerked our heads up, hands already on our guns, but it was just Jessie. Her face was pale, and her hands were shaking as she gripped the handles of the doors.

“You’re okay,” she breathed.

Fucking hell. She’d had another nightmare, and I hadn’t been there to hold her.

I leaned back in my chair. “I’m okay, my girl,” I assured her. I beckoned her to me with a finger. “Come here.”

She paused. I knew she was warring with herself. Coming to me and seeking comfort would make her feel weak, but she also needed to understand that showing her emotions also made her hella fucking strong.

I narrowed my eyes at her. “Now, Jessie,” I growled.

Obediently, she walked towards me and dropped into my lap. I wrapped her up in my arms, pulling her head to my shoulder. She immediately relaxed in my hold, taking comfort. Conversation resumed around us, and I held Jessie until she was okay enough to face the world on her own again.
