“Daaaddyyyyyyy!” A loud squeal sounded, and then Serena was making a beeline toward me in her grass-stained jeans and dirty white shirt. She had a cape on and was running full speed.

I picked her up and twirled her twice. “How’s my princess?”

“Junior said I ugsly.”

Junior ran up after her. “I no say that!”

Phoenix picked up Junior. “Son, tell her you’re sorry.”

“I HATE GWIRLS!” Junior protested.

“I HATES BOYS!” Serena yelled back and stuck out her tongue.

We both put them down as they chased each other. Serena tackled Junior, then he tackled her right back.

“They’ll be fine.” I laughed. “At least we don’t have to worry about them getting married.”

Phoenix burst out laughing. “That’s true. God, can you even imagine?”

We both fell silent and watched the kids roughhouse, then looked at one another and laughed.

At least we had another generation willing to take the reins from us, even if it meant they were already fighting on the hill that had made us.

EPILOGUE

“As burns this saint, so burns my soul. I enter alive, and I will have to get out dead.” —Entice, Eagle Elite

Katya

One month later

“What do you mean you did that in the bathroom?”

Trace just laughed. “He likes obscure places? I think that’s how we got Serena.” She instantly started counting on her fingers.

“Hard math.” Bee laughed.

“Something was hard,” Mo added, then made a face. “Ewwwww, I need to take a shower, that’s my brother!”

I burst out laughing. “Well, I will say all of your pointers a few weeks ago went stellar.”

Luc chuckled into her wine. “Oh, I’m sure you had a great time, might need to repaint, add some more curtains, gift everyone the noise-canceling headphones this Christmas, and don’t forget all the kitchen supplies.”

All the girls looked over at her.

Val raised her hand. “I have a lot of questions.”

Alice made a face. “I think I’m on board with all of this, but what do you do with utensils? They better not be sharp or what…” She paused. “If they’re sharp, then does that mean—”

“Violence.” El cackled. “I mean, they do like to tug things, I guess that’s all guys that are so impressed with their dicks, but all the clothes, they must come off!”

The girls all laughed again.

“And that’s when you grab the whip…” Trace nodded and then looked over at me. “What? You did get that burn box for your birthday. It was leather, so classy.”

“Yes, Trace likes to send all the gifts.”

Bee chuckled into her wine while Val high-fived her, followed by Luc.

“Are we in an official fight club now?” I wondered out loud.

They all turned to look at me as I grabbed my drink. “What?”

“Girl, you’re in the mafia.”

Alice winked. “Strap in, dear sister-in-law, strap in.”

“WHY!” A male voice shouted, then fell into the massive pool in front of the castle-like structure we’re staying in, in Maui.

I saw the hair. Ah, Tex.

Andrei jumped in after him, followed by Phoenix, who looked just a tad tipsy. Chase, Dante, and Nixon looked like they’re whispering about something when Sergio started shoving them in.

Soon they’re all swimming toward us.

“You girls talking about us?” Nixon winked.

Trace gives him a bored expression. “No.”

Tex laughed then nodded to Mo, who looked down at her phone.

“Nope!” Tex jumped out of the pool. “Watch here Santino, this means war!”

All the guys started running toward us, we had no time to prepare, and when Santino finally had me in his arms in the shallow end, Chase and Luc floated by.

I barely heard Chase whisper to Luc, asking under his breath, “But you didn’t tell them about the bagels, right?”

She gave him an innocent expression and shook her head. “Baby, I would never.” She kissed him, looked over at me, and winked.

“Bagels?” Santino whispered.

I nudged him. “Show ya later.”

“Promise?”

“Always.”

“COCKFIGHT!” Tex yelled, sending everyone into a fury as everyone started laughing and fighting. Not how I saw the end, but here I am, enjoying the beginning, a fresh start. And finally.

A family.

My family.

Blood in. No Out.

The End
