“Okay …” I say.

“So he knows you’re a virgin, and that’s your own personal business, so I apologize for making him aware of it.”

I’m quiet for a moment as this sinks in, and when it does, my anger bubbles up so quickly, I stop in my tracks. “Is that what this is all about?” I ask, gesturing back toward Duke’s house. “Help the virgin? Like I’m some kind of prize to be won? God, why is virginity such a big deal?”

I hate that all of my stuff is unloaded here now, because I think it would be best if I go to Garrett’s as originally planned.

“No, no,” Trevor says, quick to protest. “It’s not like that at all. Duke didn’t even know about the virgin thing until our drive over here right before dinner, after he’d already jumped in to help. I don’t mean to make a big deal about it, and the only reason I’m mentioning it is because Duke seems interested in you, and I wanted you to know that he knows, and that I apologize for sharing that information.”

When I’m still frowning at him, Trevor adds, “Virginity doesn’t need to be a big deal, but it’s probably good for someone to know, if they were going to … get involved. But anyway, that’s not why I told him. It was more of an accident, really.”

“Okay. Whatever,” I say, starting off toward the water again, my head dizzy at the thought of Duke “getting involved.”

It’s peaceful down by the dock, even as internally, my brain is working overtime imagining scenarios that involve Duke. Frogs croak and insects buzz in the trees, and I try to let the noises of nature soothe me. It’s easier when Garrett pulls my back against his chest and wraps his arms around my shoulders. And easier still, when, even while Garrett is holding me, Trevor takes my hand in his and squeezes it, giving me a comforting smile.

We stand that way for several minutes, silent but connected, none of us moving much until Garrett starts to nuzzle my hair, and then the top of my cheek, to my ear, and when I turn toward him, his lips tenderly lay kisses on mine. I open for him, and he goes deeper, his tongue brushing against mine, his lips tugging my bottom lip.

His hands go around my waist, and I circle mine around his neck, and we go on kissing for a nice long minute or two until Trevor finds my hand again and gives it a gentle tug.

Garrett must feel the movement, because he releases me and Trevor takes me in his arms, picking right up where Garrett had left off, kissing me like he’s been waiting to do it all day. I press my body against the length of his and love how natural and easy it feels, while also being incredibly exciting.

As Trevor is about to pass me back to Garrett, I pause, holding both of them close. “Before everything went wrong this morning,” I say, “I was thinking about how I’d like to sleep with one of you. Sleep,” I clarify when Garrett’s eyes darken. “Share a bed, I mean. Adrian slept with me in my bed last night, and it was really nice. I’d like to sleep with one of you. I wish I could sleep with you both,” I add, looking at Garrett, “even though I know I shouldn’t want that.”

“Why not?” he asks.

“Because you’re going to be my boss soon.”

He looks down at the ground. “Oh yeah. Conveniently, I keep forgetting about that.”

“You’re getting a promotion?” Trevor asks. “That’s great!”

“It has its pros and cons,” Garrett says.

“Since you’re not Autumn’s boss yet, I’ll mention that my bed could probably fit the three of us,” Trevor says. To me, he adds, “If you snuggle close to us.” He slides his arm around my waist, pulling me against him.

“That sounds nice,” I say.

Trevor’s hand slides down and cups my ass, tugging me closer still. “Are you sure all you want to do is sleep?”

Nothing about tonight is turning out the way I thought it would, but if there’s anything I’ve learned over the past couple of nights, it’s that it’s best to go with the flow.

Would I rather have Autumn to myself? Probably.

But would any of this be happening without Trevor acting as the catalyst? Definitely not.

I’d have probably never gotten the nerve to make a move with Autumn, and even though I shouldn’t be getting involved with her, I’m not her boss yet, and the company doesn’t need to know what we’re doing in our private time.

What happens at Duke’s house stays at Duke’s house?

We’re back inside after the walk down to the water, and Duke is giving Autumn a tour, so I tag along. His house is the size of a hotel compared to my one-room apartment. There are four bedrooms, the living room, a family room with a pool table and foosball, and a giant garage, half of which has been converted into a gym with a lot of equipment. Security work appears to be more lucrative than I thought.
