“What’s wrong?”

“I don’t have a condom.”

I lock my legs behind his back. “We don’t need them. I’m on the pill, and we’ve already talked about our histories.”

“You can stop taking it,” he tells me.

I smile up at my sweet, sexy man. “I will in time. Right now, I need you inside me.”

“Anything,” he says as he slides deep. He stills and rests his forehead against mine. “Nothing has ever felt like this before. Feeling you without anything between us— It’s… fuck me, baby. This is heaven. I love you. I love you so much.”

“I love you too.”

He kisses me again as he starts to move, and it’s not lost on me that I’m going to spend the rest of my life kissing my rival.

EPILOGUE CHARLOTTE

Six months later

Charlotte

I’m staring down at my engagement ring, something I’ve done a lot of the last week since Spencer proposed. I’ve been thinking a lot about what I might have in mind for my wedding, and I don’t need all the fanfare. I just want to be his wife. I don’t desire a big wedding, or hell, a wedding at all for that matter. We could go to the courthouse, and I’d be more than fine with it. However, I’m going to need to convince my fiancé that’s what I want.

I just want him and the life that we’re building. I don’t require more than that. Just Spencer.

“Do you not like it?” he asks, walking into the bedroom. It’s Sunday night, and we’re getting ready for bed.

“I love it. I was just thinking about our wedding.”

“Anything you want, Charlie girl,” he assures me.

“I’ve been thinking about it a lot, and I don’t really want a wedding.”

“You don’t?” he asks.

“No. I just want to be your wife, Spencer.”

He nods and grabs his cell phone from the nightstand. His fingers tap at the screen before the phone rings. I’m curious, but I don’t ask. When I hear his mom answer, I’m surprised and even more intrigued.

“Hey, kid,” she greets.

“Hi, Mom.”

“Everything okay?”

“Yes. Everything is fine. Charlie and I were just talking about the wedding.”

“Oh. What can I do?”

“Well, we were thinking of something intimate. Maybe even just the two of us.”

“And you’re asking for my permission?”

“Not your permission but your thoughts?”

She chuckles. “Spencer, weddings are for the guests, but the sentiment is for those pledging to share their lives together. You know that your father and I eloped, and I don’t regret it, not for a single second.”

“So, you wouldn’t be mad if you missed it?”

“No, son, and neither would your father. We know how much you love her, and we also know this has to be hard for her. She doesn’t have her parents, and that, well, that has to be tough. We support you no matter what. In fact, I encourage it. I’m hopeful that means I’ll be getting grandbabies to spoil soon.” You can hear the love and the happiness in her voice for us. My own happiness and love has tears springing to my eyes. His parents have accepted me with open arms, and I love them as much as I love their son.

“Thanks, Mom. I love you.” He winks at me. “I need to go now. It’s time I convince my fiancée that we need to start making babies.”

“Spencer!” I scold, then smack my hand over my mouth, and his mom laughs.

“Hi, Charlie,” she says through the phone.

“Hi.”

“Gotta go. Tell Dad we said hello, and we’ll be in touch.” Spencer ends the call.

“Love you both,” she says, and tears fill my eyes.

“I knew that’s what she would say, but I also know you. I know that you would have worried about how they would feel. I need you to hear it from her unprompted. You tell me when, and you tell me where, and I’m all in, baby.”

I process what his mom said, and I think about my sister and my life with Spencer, and I don’t want to wait another day to be his wife. “The courthouse works, and then we can have a get-together here.”

“How about we go away and do a destination wedding? Just the two of us. Combine that with our honeymoon, maybe work on our first baby while we’re there, and then we celebrate with everyone when we get home?”

“Yes.” My voice cracks. My answer is simple and instant. Hot tears prick my eyes, but they never fall. “I don’t care where or when, but soon would be good.”

“Wait? Are you letting me handle it?” he asks.

I nod. “I am. I can get the time off work. Susan already told me when she saw the ring.”

He moves off the bed and grabs his laptop from the nightstand, and within the hour, we have a room, flights, and a destination wedding booked in the Bahamas. “Two weeks,” he says, putting his laptop back on the nightstand. “Two weeks and you’re my wife.”
