Rolling his eyes again as our boy yawned, Bishop shook his head before coming over and giving both of us sweet kisses. “I didn’t hear anything.”

That got another giggle from Ian, but it was cut off as he yawned again. “We’re very sneaky.”

Bishop barely held back a smirk as he mouthed the word brat in my direction. “You’re very funny too, and I think you might be just a little bit tired.”

Ian’s eyelids were drooping, but he shook his head and fought off another yawn. “No, Daddy. I’m not tired. We’re going to play and see where my shelf is gonna go.”

We were, huh?

Snorting, Bishop headed toward the kitchen as I snuggled our sweet boy. “Alright, we’ll plan that in a few minutes.”

Bishop said we’d plan, but he seemed to have something else in mind as he startled bustling around in the kitchen. However, since I had no idea what he was thinking, I kissed Ian’s head and kept him occupied. “What kind of toys do you think we should hide?”

As he relaxed even more, his body slowly going boneless, he sighed. “My books and my crayons and my glitter if I ever get some.”

That was scary right there.

“I’m not sure we need glitter, but I think the books and crayons would be a wonderful idea.” How big was this secret compartment? “You need a good system to store your toys.”

“Especially when I get lots more, Uncle Cohen.” Sinking lower, he snuggled his head against my chest as his body stretched down the couch. “I think I need a stuffie now. Just to cuddle, Uncle Cohen. I’m not tired.”

Of course he wasn’t.

“I think having a stuffie to cuddle while we watch cartoons would be a great idea.” That would put him to sleep, right? “Maybe we’ll get a binkie too?”

He looked so cute like that.

He made a low hum that sounded like he was agreeing with me before pointing toward the TV. “Something fun, Uncle Cohen. Like…like explosions.”

Huh?

What kind of cartoon had explosions?

Since that sounded off even to me, I decided to aim for something more soothing. “How about Thomas the Train? I like trains.”

That was the most relaxing show I knew.

Ian was going to argue about it, I could see it in the way he scrunched up his face, but another yawn cut off his rant before it’d even started.

And saved by the Daddy.

Oh.

Bishop came back out of the kitchen holding one of the new bottles that were now filled with water. As he set it on the end table, Ian curled into me and started slowly petting my shirt like it was his blankie. “Uncle Cohen, I think Daddy is being sneaky. He’s very quiet.”

Laughing would’ve just encouraged him, but between his sass and Bishop’s expression, it was hysterical. As Bishop alternated between glaring at both of us and nearly giggling, he mouthed that he thought our boy was smart.

I had to agree, but his sass when he was tired was going to end up getting him in trouble one day. However, since today was not that day, he was safe.

“He’s getting something ready for you, cutie.” I just wasn’t sure what.

If Ian was going to say anything reasonable or even unreasonable, it was lost in another yawn that seemed to derail his train of thought.

“Did you know Carter likes pretty clothes like Eli, but he’s not like Eli?”

Thank god.

“Yes, he looked very nice in his skirt.” Old-fashioned, almost. “I heard that you guys talked about antiques.”

I’d caught some of the conversation, but my discussion with Wyatt had been fascinating.

“He and Daddy did.” Another yawn slowed his response and his body seemed to slide lower before he managed to continue. “Daddy…they want to go talk…see the shop…”

Luckily, Bishop had mentioned enough details I could fill in the blank. Getting to know Carter would be good for Bishop, and I hoped would lead to him figuring out what he wanted to do with his life because I was fairly certain his goal was not to continue torturing himself.

“That’s going to be interesting. I don’t know if I’ve ever been in his shop before or not.” I’d have definitely remembered Carter, but that didn’t mean I hadn’t been in the store before. I’d visited a variety of stores in the area over the years but just couldn’t place his.

Ian nodded and I was assuming it meant he thought it’d be interesting, but Bishop came back smiling before I could ask. “Ready?”

He’d planned something, so I wasn’t surprised when he nodded. “Yes, I’ve got a surprise for our tired boy.”

Ian seemed to have every intention of explaining he wasn’t tired…after his yawn, of course, but Bishop distracted him by coming over and sweeping him up in his arms. “Come here, cutie.”

A nod from Bishop as he walked toward the playroom had me picking up the bottle and following. I was confused for a few seconds until I walked into the room to see the fort ready and a diaper out.
