As much as I hated to admit it, maybe the distance would be good for us. I couldn’t help but think about what her old man asked of me the same night I claimed his daughter’s virginity. I didn’t consider the consequences of us sleeping together, and now, for the life of me, I couldn’t think about them. Especially how right it felt being with her all this time.

Except now she wasn’t returning my calls.

Or answering my texts.

It was like she was trying to disappear.

This was the longest we’d ever gone without speaking, so when she texted me that morning, wanting to meet at our waterhole, I jumped in my truck and headed that way with nothing but uncertainty and anxiety. It was almost crippling how much fear I felt for the future and what she’d say to me. I never felt like this before, and I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy.

I parked my truck and found her sitting on her swing. Even with the distance between us, I could see she was crying as I made my way over to her.

“Fuck,” I muttered under my breath.

This couldn’t be good. Livvy didn’t cry. She hated it, but she was still so beautiful, so breathtakingly beautiful. Her hair was down and flowing through the light breeze, it was the only part of her that moved with ease. She was wearing a white dress which was my favorite color on her, and I wondered if she did that for me.

I could visibly tell she was uncomfortable in her own skin. I walked slower the closer I approached her. As soon as I stood beside her, she shut her eyes like it pained her to be near me. The warmth that usually radiated off her was missing.

She was cold.

Detached.

It was hard for me to swallow for a few seconds before she opened them again to look out toward the water. She suddenly leaned her head on my stomach, and I held back the desire to wrap my arm around her, but then she did it herself.

I felt her take three deep, steady breaths before she somewhat relaxed against me. We stayed in complete silence for the rest of the afternoon, watching the world revolve around us as if we were the only two people in it. The bright colors of the sky started giving way to nightfall, blending perfectly into deep oranges to fire reds. Sunsets in Charleston were always a sight to behold. No matter where you were.

I was the first to break the silence. “Livvy, are you going to tell me what’s wrong?”

Instead of replying, she pulled me down onto the seat, shifting to straddle my waist and sit on my lap.

“What are you—”

She placed her finger on my lips. “Shhh…”

I cocked my head to the side, confused.

“Shhh…” she repeated, looking intently into my eyes, searching for something in my stare I couldn’t quite place.

Using her finger that was already on my lips, she gently brushed it back and forth against my mouth. Parting them to rub along the inside where she could feel my breath. I didn’t stop her. I let her do what she wanted, what she needed, in hopes of seeing my girl again.

Slowly, she slid her finger along the edge of my face, tracing my jawbone from one side to the other. Moving to my cheeks, then the bridge of my nose up to my forehead. She was just touching ever so softly along my skin. Our eyes stayed connected the entire time. She licked her lips as she swiped her finger to my chin and neck, stopping to caress the front of my throat with her thumb.

As she made her way down to my chest, she broke eye contact to focus on my heart before tracing her fingers along it, hardly touching me at all. When she firmly placed the palm of her right hand against my heart, I saw a subtle smile appear on her face.

It was quick, but it was there.

She joined our left hands and brought them up to her heart, pressing her fingers on the backside of my hand to hold it in place. It beat a mile a minute, nothing compared to my steady beat. I waited for her next move, feeling her rapid heartbeat pounding against my hand as she leaned in to kiss me.

Slow.

Gentle.

She took her time to explore my mouth.

I cherished every second before I felt her unbuckle my jeans.

“Livvy—”

She pulled out my cock, causing me to groan.

As if reading my mind, she sensed my hesitation, whispering, “Just be with me. Please…” So much sadness laced her voice.

Despair.

Agony.

What’s going on?

I reluctantly nodded with an immense amount of emotions coursing through my body that I couldn’t find the words to speak.

Her stare melted as she raised her dress over her head and was left wearing only her panties, but those were quickly gone as well. I could feel her thoughts raging a war in her mind when she wrapped her legs around my waist.
