“I tried to get him insurance, but because he has a preexisting condition, they make you wait six months before covering anything. I didn’t know what to do. And then...” He swallows thickly. “Your dad came to me.”

Motherfucker.

“What did he do?”

“He said he’d pay me to seduce Kaylee, but the problem was I couldn’t do it because she’s so in love with you. I told him that, but he wouldn’t take no for an answer. So I drugged her and took pictures so it would look like she cheated. But I swear, nothing happened. I sent them to him, and he told me once I posted them, he would wire me the money.”

He has the decency to at least look like he feels bad for what he’s done, but that doesn’t make it all right.

“How much?” I ask. “How much was destroying Kaylee’s reputation and our relationship worth?”

“Two million.”

I laugh humorlessly. “That’s it? If you would’ve come to me, I would’ve given you double that just for being honest.”

I step back, done with this piece of shit. “I’ll speak to Kaylee and find out if she wants to press charges. Hopefully, you have some money left over if she does because I meant what I said before. I’ll spend every dime of my money to drag your ass through the mud, and guess what? I have way fucking more than your measly two mil.”

Without waiting for him to respond, I turn my back on him and walk out the door. When I get downstairs, Paul is waiting for me.

“Where to, boss?” he asks, opening the back door for me.

“To my dad’s office.”

Forty minutes later—thanks to the city’s fucked traffic—we arrive at Lutz, Burger, and Goldstein, the firm my dad is a partner at. Once again, I have Paul wait in the SUV since this won’t take long. Unlike the beating I gave Justin, I would never hit my dad—even if he deserves it.

His secretary isn’t at her desk, so I walk straight back to his office, not bothering to knock before entering. Of course, once I open the door, I find his secretary with her face between his legs, sucking his dick.

“Real nice, Dad,” I say, making him jump. “Next time, try locking the door.”

The woman’s head pops up, looking like she’s young enough to be my sister, and scrambles to her feet, righting her dress and attempting to wipe the smeared lipstick off her lips.

“We need to talk.”

Dad tucks his dick back in his pants and zips them up. “Jewel, please hold my calls.”

She nods, scurrying out and closing the door behind her. Once we’re alone, my dad stands and walks over to me as if to hug me, but before he gets close enough, I raise my hand.

“I’m going to ask you something, and I suggest you not lie about it.”

His brow furrows in confusion, and if I didn’t already know what I know, I would believe he genuinely has no idea why I’m here.

“Did you have anything to do with the pictures posted of Kaylee and Justin?”

He must realize that I already know because, unlike Justin, who tried to follow through with the lie, he nods. “I did. I asked him to seduce her, but only because I was afraid she wasn’t loyal, and based on those pictures, I was right.”

“You were right?” I bark out a humorless laugh. “You were right? I guess the man you paid two million to didn’t explain what happened?” I cross my arms over my chest and shake my head. “He didn’t seduce my girlfriend. He drugged her.”

Dad’s eyes go wide in shock. “No, I... What are you talking about? Is that what she’s saying? That’s her excuse for cheating on you? That she was drugged?”

“That’s not her excuse.” I drop my hands and stalk toward him, shoving him against the wall behind him. “It’s what happened. Justin was desperate. He needed the money to pay his brother’s medical bills, but I bet you already knew that, didn’t you? It’s why you targeted him. Why you thought it would be easy. Dangle a couple of million in front of his face, and he’d fuck my girlfriend, proving she’s like Denise.”

I slam my hand against the wall next to his face, wanting so fucking badly to punch him but knowing it’s not worth it. Because if I do, I’m sinking to his level. No, I’m going to say what I need to say and then walk out the door. “He couldn’t figure out a way to get in her pants while she was sober because she’s fucking loyal, so he drugged her. Then after she was naked, he staged it to look like they fucked, posted the pictures, and collected his money.”

Realizing he’s been had, he scrunches his face up, and it turns red in anger. “That’s not what was supposed to happen!”
