I ponder her question. “No. You were meant to be nothing more than revenge on your father. I wanted him to watch as I sliced you open, as you bled out. I wanted him to feel the pain we felt when we lost our siblings.”

I glance over to find her mouth popped open and I can’t deny, it’s beautiful, causing me to think about how my cock would slide along her tongue.

“Don’t be shocked,” I say, “I told you I enjoy violence, and the blade is my weapon of choice. Usually, I’ll have a gun for jobs, but if I had to choose, the agony a slice of metal brings to my victims is far more satisfying.”

“Wow,” Lucille breathes. “I don’t know what to say.” She turns her attention away from me, and I want nothing more than to grab her and turn her attention back to me. But I don’t. It’s not too far now until we reach the house. As much as I didn’t want her with me, I knew she had to see what these bastards do. These are the men who are well-known associates of the men her father works for. The same assholes who broke him out of prison. They’re the reason she’s in danger.

“When we get to the party, you will have to stay silent. Don’t speak until I allow you to. If you do, it will put you in danger. If I order you to do something, you do it. I won ’t think twice about letting them take you, so do not disobey me.”

“I’m not afraid of you, Crow. Also, I’m not going to fuck this up,” she bites out. The annoyance in her tone is clear. She’s fiery. It’s what keeps me wanting to taunt her. The angrier she gets, the more I prod.

“Good,” is all I offer before I pull into the driveway of the property. The gates slide open, the heavy metal silently moving offering us entrance. I drive up to the circular drive and stop in front of the enormous double doors.

A valet steps up to my door, waiting for me to give over my keys. Exiting the vehicle, I throw the fob over to him before I make my way around to Lucille’s door. I open it and offer her a hand. It’s all about appearances and I can’t show them we’re more familiar than they expect.

Most times, these parties mean the women are nothing more than possessions. If I show any emotion toward her, they’ll know something isn’t right. If it happens, we’ll both be killed. I know my contact is here, but he can’t keep us safe since he’s undercover, so I have to behave.

“Remember what I said,” I whisper as I grip the back of her neck and lead her up to the entrance. There are already guests inside when we enter. Waiters with champagne swan through the crowds, and I grab two flutes, handing one to Lucille. “Drink this,” I tell her. The alcohol will calm her nerves. I can’t have her tense beside me. She needs to calm the fuck down.

As we move closer to the main room, I find it’s filled with guests. I take in the faces, memorizing the expressions. Beside me, Lucille stands anxious, but with every sip of her drink, she seems to lean closer to me. The heat of her is intoxicating, more than the desire coursing through me.

“Who are these people?” Her whisper feathers along my jaw as she looks up at me. The softness of her voice makes me want to take her away. But I can’t walk away from her, from this party because there is a job to do.

Music trickles through the speakers, filling the room in a hum of bass and melodies. I wrap my arm around her waist and feel the tension from her ease up. My fingers grip the material of her dress. I’m tempted to rip it off, but I lead her deeper between the men.

Eyes are on us. I feel every set, homing in on the woman by my side.

“Ah,” a deep rumble comes from my left. A man in his sixties stops in front of us. His balding head only offers a glimpse of gray, while his protruding belly distends, making the buttons of his shirt look like they’re about to pop. “Is this one for sale?”

Lucille stiffens beside me. “No,” I bite out, keeping my tone ice cold. If I were to show any emotion, they’d know there’s more to this than meets the eye. “She’s owned,” I tell him. “A good slave, obedient.” I ensure the word is a low growl, one Lucy can hear. My little mouse has to play this part perfectly, or she will end up int he clutches of a monster far worse than I am.
