He continued to get lost in Cole’s wonderful mouth and the amazing weight of his body pressing him into the mattress. He clung to it all, desperately trying to drown out the little voice demanding to know how he was going to let this go if Cole decided he wasn’t going to stay on the ranch.

Chapter Twenty-One

JB gingerly shifted on his office chair, the slight uncomfortable twinge in his ass reminding him of yesterday. It had been a long time since he’d bottomed, and damn, he’d forgotten how much he liked it. Though the man who’d been pounding him into the mattress had a lot to do with that.

His need for Cole hadn’t crept up on him, but it had sort of washed over him like a flood. The sex was off the charts. Better than anything he’d ever experienced.

But it was more than sex…

Last night, they’d stroked each other off again, Cole staring into his eyes the whole time.

The intimacy had made him feel as if he were flying, his body loose and so full of pleasure, he’d wondered if he’d ever come back down again. They’d fallen asleep together, and it had been all he could do to force himself from that warm bed this morning.

But he had work.

And he’d been dealing with a bout of fear that had sent him scurrying from the house without even making Cole breakfast as he usually did. Fear that he’d found something precious that wasn’t his to keep.

He shuffled some papers, then poked at the keyboard, unable to bring his mind into focus. All he could see was Cole with his big body sprawled in that bed. All he could think about was the way Cole had held him during the night. He wanted to wake up with him forever. Wanted to know the man was there for him whenever he got off work. Wanted more nights of monster movies that made Cole laugh. Before they’d gone to bed, they’d watched another, and Cole’s teasing and joking over the movie had made it even more fun.

Could they figure out a way to make things work? JB’s Internet connection was great and computer work could be done from anywhere, but could he talk him into leaving the ease of the city to move all the way out here?

And then, there was Cole’s family. He knew they were close and had even heard Cole talking to his brother on the phone.

He sighed. The man’s whole life was in Ohio. He’d have to have some pretty strong feelings about JB to give that up.

Someone knocked on his door, and he looked up to find his foreman standing there.

Owen walked into his office. “You got a minute?” he asked.

“Of course.” JB watched him fold his long body into the chair in front of the desk, glad for the distraction. Dark eyes stared at him, shadowed under the brim of his cowboy hat. A five o’clock shadow covered his jaw, and JB had to smile. Owen should just give in. He already shaved twice a day. He’d look good in a beard.

Which made him think of the beard burn he had all over him from his time with Cole. He shifted in his seat and willed his dick not to respond to the memory. That was the last thing he needed with Owen sitting there, though he was covered by his desk.

When the man had first come on as foreman, JB had toyed with the idea of dating him. Why not? Tall, dark, with sexy bedroom eyes and killer mouth. He was hot sex in boots and a Stetson.

But his dick hadn’t won that argument. It was always better to separate work and play.

Plus, Owen was a damn fine foreman, and he didn’t want to lose him. And now, he’d become a really good friend.

“Any news on the poisonings?” Owen asked as he rested one ankle on his knee. His boots were already dusty from work. Owen was always in the office as the sun was rising. They all started early on the ranch, but Owen tended to be the first out most days.

“Cole is trying to track down where it was bought and who bought it.” He picked up a pencil from his desktop and rolled it between his fingers. “He’s good at what he does. They all are at Ward Security. I’m expecting he’ll find answers for us.” He looked up at Owen and smiled. “How are the mamas doing today?” He was ready to turn his mind to normal operations rather than the nonsensical chaos that had plagued them for the last couple of weeks.

“A few are getting real close to calving, so I’m keeping an eye on them. Danny’s gotten attached to them, too. I found him crooning to them this morning.” His mouth cracked into a grin. “Singing to cows.”
