Epilogue

Gabriel

I watch her move around our home, trying to be sneaky, but my wife isn’t that stealthy, especially at eight months pregnant. She’s lucky if she can see her own feet, which is why I’ve been lingering a bit behind her these days. If she’d fall, I’d lose my mind. Cat is everything to me and so is our son that’s growing inside her.

Today’s her birthday and she’s out there scoping for presents. She won’t find them because I’ve hidden them well.

“Damn it, Gabe. Where are they?”

“Baby, you’re not supposed to peek anyway.”

“Yes, but it’s my birthday.”

“I know, my heart and you’ll get them soon. Let’s wait until our guests arrive.”

“My parents aren’t coming.” During their trip, they found that they had preferred other people’s company on a more permanent basis. My father ran off with a woman he met years ago at one of their hookups and my mother fell for my brother’s father after telling him the truth.

“I know. Are you okay with that?”

“Yes, more than okay with it. I don’t need that drama in my life. They were selfish and it showed throughout our lives. Hell, and let’s not pretend my parents didn’t try to hook up with you.”

“You knew about it?”

“My mother slipped up in a drunken rant. I let it go because it was clear you told them to leave you alone.”

“All I kept thinking was they have no idea that I want to bend their daughter over, and I don’t think they’d approve.”

“Nope.”

The doorbell rings, effectively ending the creepy discussion about her parents. We open it and the celebration of her nineteenth birthday kicks off. By the night's end, my sexy wife had forgotten about her gifts because she had an incredible time.

“Time for bed.” I carry my sleepy birthday girl to our room.

“My present,” she calls out, nearly falling out of my arms.

“Relax. It’s in my pocket.”

“Not that present,” she huffs.

“I’m not talking about my cock. That’s a present for me when you take it.” I settle her on the bed, pulling the covers down and taking off her flats.

“Mine too,” she moans when my hands work her sore feet.

“That’s why I gave it to you this morning,” I reminded her that I had her bent over my desk in my office, drilling her tight hole.

“Dig inside the inner pocket of my jacket.” She does it while I work on her tired pregnancy swollen feet.

She opens the envelope and gasps. “This is a pet adoption form for the cat we saw.”

“Yep. We will pick up the little guy you wanted in the morning.”

Tears flow down her face like I’ve given her the best gift. We still live in the condo and although I don’t like the idea of having cat hair everywhere, I’d do anything to please Catherine. It’s been a tough surprise to keep from her. “I can’t believe it. I thought you said he was taken already.”

“Yeah, by me. It was my surprise for your birthday. The little guy will be available after being weaned off and given his shots.”

“Thank you,” she cries, throwing her arms around me.

“I love you, Cat. I’ll do anything for you. Now, are you feeling up to your favorite present?”

“Oh yes.” I slam my mouth down on hers and pin her to the bed, making sweet love to her all night long.

Catherine

Six Years Later

“Max, get over here. Your daddy doesn’t want you to run too far away.” My oldest is flying his kite in the summer sun. The fourth of July is this weekend, and we’re having fun at our larger home we bought after Max was born. A light summer breeze blows my dress up a bit which feels incredible on a hot day like today, but thankfully, nothing is revealed. `

I rub my back and know damn well that he’s done it again. I’m pregnant with baby number four. Smiling, I can’t wait for my husband to come home. Gabe takes the kids’ safety extremely seriously.

“Leave the kiddo alone. He’s just having fun, and you need to get out of the sun, Catherine,” my mother-in-law says. She’s become a real mother to me. My parents have cut all ties with us kids after learning about Gabe and me. I thought maybe we could work it out, but they just don’t want grandchildren in their lives because it cramps their style.

“She’s right. You need to get out of the sun. If I did my job, little number four is growing right now and you’re still breastfeeding our sweet Kate.” Gabe bends down and kisses my lips while holding our daughter in his arms.

“When did you get back?”

“About five minutes ago. Mom was just about to change this beauty….” He kisses her cheek and then continues, “but I’m home to take care of my family. Now, where is Adam?”
