‘What are you doing here your highness?” Even in the little bird form I’d chosen all it took was the turning of my head with a bitch please tilt in his direction to keep him moving. He flew a safe distance away before starting his shit again.

“Don’t you know how dangerous this is for her? If you hurt her…’

“Shut up, where’d she find you? Isn’t your kind supposed to be rare?” He puffed up his chest and preened like that was supposed to impress me. ‘I’ll have you know I’ve been with the little princess since her birth. Other than her sister fairies I’m the closest one to her.’ La-di fucking da!

He was trying to rub that shit in. ‘Past tense, you were, not anymore.’

‘She hasn’t accepted you yet.’

‘You want your species to become extinct you keep starting shit with me.’

He flew away screeching some shit again and I didn’t know what the hell his deal was until I saw her coming back into the room. ‘Oh, so that’s your game. I’d like to see you convince her that little ole me did something to you.’

“Patrick he’s going to share your cage for a few days, you two have to get along.” The hell I am. Neither one of us was too fond of that idea but I had the good sense to keep my thoughts to myself while he showed his ass. He came damn close to giving away my identity before I sent him a mental mind fuck that knocked him off his perch.

“Don’t be so dramatic.” She scolded him as she walked past him to get to me. “Come little birdie I got you some food.” Good, I haven’t eaten in forever running around behind you. She picked me up again which was fast becoming my favorite thing ever. Then she put me down on the table in front of a plate of worms.

No thanks! Not even for you am I eating this shit. I turned my head and started to hop off the table as fast as my little feet would carry me. “What’s the matter? Don’t you like your meal?” She tried pulling me back and that damn bird thought this shit was funny. ‘Stew…meat.’ That stopped him mid laugh now I only had to deal with her.

Chick get off, I’m not eating that shit. Steak, give me a steak, medium well. Contrary to popular belief I hate the taste of blood. My people only do that shit under the most strenuous of circumstances, just like humans who need a transfusion to survive. I don’t know what asshole came up with that lie about us drinking from humans and turning them into us.

I find it funny that humans believe that shit. I think it’s just wishful thinking on their part, mortals trying to think up ways that they can become like us, but it doesn’t work that way. Sure there are ways to keep a human mate alive for much longer than their normal lifespan, but they can’t become immortal that easily.

When she saw that I wasn’t eating her nasty shit she pouted and fussed at me. I kept my beak shut tight and gave Patrick death glares when he started encouraging her in her shit again. I escaped her hold and flew up to the rafters not at all pleased that she’d clasped hands with him to gang up on me.

She finally gave up trying to coerce me after a while and by that time the sun was up in the sky and I was starting to grow tired. I didn’t trust either of them so I stayed put where I was and tucked my head into my chest to take a nap. I’d had way too much sensory overload today and a nice long nap was in order.

I put in a few good hours before finally waking up. The first thing I did was send my mind out to find her. She was in the garden with her sisters drinking tea and eating cupcakes; posh! I started to eavesdrop on their conversation before I realized there was something missing from the room.

Where the hell is that damn bird? No sooner had I had the thought than he came flying towards the little table where they sat and landed on the arm of her chair. As she was wont to do, she lifted her hand and started rubbing his crown.

It hadn’t bothered me when she did that same thing to the animals in the wild earlier this morning, but somehow seeing her hands on him the same way they’d been on me rubbed me the wrong way. Closest thing to her are you?

I dropped from my perch in full male form before I could stop myself. Shit, how can I get out there to her in my bird form? She’d wonder how I escaped since she had all the windows in here locked so I couldn’t get out. I sent him a threat from behind the glass and he ignored me. Fucker knew I was trapped.
